PBBM CAN IGNORE JBC SHORTLIST?
#ICYMI| Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who is among the 17 aspirants vying for the Ombudsman’s position, said that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is not bound by the Judicial and Bar Council’s (JBC) shortlist for appointing the next Chief Anti-Graft Buster of the country.
In a media interview, Remulla said that the JBC shortlist does not limit the president’s choices for the next Ombudsman. He emphasized that the president can even ask the JBC to reopen the application process if necessary.
“I don’t know. I don’t think so. The president can actually ask them to submit a long list or reopen the application process if necessary. So, ano yan? It does not limit the president’s choices,” Remulla said.
Meanwhile, in an earlier statement, Supreme Court Spokesperson Atty. Camille Sue Mae Ting said that once the shortlist is finalized, the president is constitutionally required to select the Ombudsman only from the nominees provided by the JBC.
