‘AYON HEARING NA NIYA MAMAYA’
Political analyst and known Duterte critic Ronald Llamas took a swipe at former president Rodrigo Duterte as the International Criminal Court formally opened its confirmation of charges hearing in The Hague on February 23.
In a social media post, Llamas recalled Duterte’s past pronouncements challenging the ICC to arrest him and saying he was unafraid of the tribunal.
“Hinamon ni Digong ang ICC na hulihin siya. Hindi raw siya takot. Sisipain daw niya. Ayon. Hearing na niya mamaya.”
The remark framed the situation as a turn of events, noting that formal proceedings are now underway before the international court.
The ICC hearing marks the start of the pre-trial phase to determine whether prosecutors have presented enough evidence to proceed to a full trial.
Although ICC judges found Duterte physically and mentally fit to stand trial, he waived his right to personally attend the proceedings. The court granted his request to be excused from appearing.
