MANILA, Philippines — Former Supreme Court justices raised concerns over the tribunal’s unanimous decision voiding the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte, and a lawyer’s group warned that the ruling could distort constitutional safeguards and weaken accountability mechanisms for high officials.
While the court found the complaint unconstitutional for violating the one-year ban and lacking due process, former Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban and retired Associate Justice Adolf Azcuna cautioned that the ruling imposed new interpretations that risk undermining the fairness and balance envisioned by the Constitution.
haha former chief justice pa naman siya pero politically driven ang opinion niya, nakalimutan niya na judges can only judge based on what is presented to them, kahit na may alam pang ibang details ang isang judge di pa rin niya pwedeng gamiting basis yun unless it is presented to his table, nakalimutan niya na nag tanong ang supreme court sa house who initiated the complaints, yun na sana ang best way to say that the first three complaints were never initiated pero the house has chosen not to present that particular basis to the judges table
