Sen. Kiko Pangilinan on Monday, August 4, urged the Supreme Court (SC) to consider the proposal of former Chief Justice Artemio Panganiban in light of the House of Representatives’ motion for reconsideration on the SC’s decision to dismiss the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte. Pangilinan called on the High Court to issue a status quo ante order and hold oral arguments, saying this would allow all parties—Congress, the judiciary, and the broader legal community—to pause and prevent a “constitutional war of attrition” that could further erode public trust in democratic institutions. He also appealed to the Court to steer the matter toward the legal principle enshrined in the Civil Liberties Union v. Executive Secretary ruling, which promotes the harmonization of the constitutional powers of the Supreme Court, the House of Representatives, and the Senate.
