US slaps PH a 20% tariff in all of its exports

Citing what he described as Washington’s “trade disparity” with Manila, Trump’s decision to slap a 20 percent tariff on Philippine exports to the US prompted the Marcos administration to pursue negotiations aimed at forging a bilateral economic deal. “Starting on August 1, 2025, we will charge the Philippines a tariff of only 20 percent on any and all Philippine products sent to the United States, separate from all sectoral tariffs. Goods transshipped to evade a higher tariff will be subject to that higher tariff,” Trump said in the letter dated July 9.

Considering na 3 years lng ang presidency ng US, many companies are just waiting out Trumps term then they will go back to usual importing. Ang problema kasi ng US, msyadong mataas ang standard of living ng workers nila kaya hindi sila maka compete sa world market, and majority ng mga unique skills nila ngayon kaya na gawin ng AI. This is just a desperate move to bring back manufacturing sa US soil, pero malabo ang success nito dahil napakamahal ng goods nila. They just basically survived using patents, pero pag n expire mga un, US is doomed.

Marami kasi students ngayon aim for trade schools para immune daw sa AI ang jobs nila, just to find out limited ang available jobs dito.

it’s not about how the tariff ranks within the SEA boss, it is about the fact na nag increase which is equivalent to 1.9 billion worth of loss in our exports

Sure, that is what the article was about. I was addressing your comment implying na ung pagpataw ng tarriff has something to do with the PH-US relationship, when the tariffs really targetted to particular products that has strong dependencies to chinese raw materials.
Dont get me wrong. As a US consumer, I hate tariffs too, dahil kami nmn ang talo sa mga batas na yan, not the importing businesses.

Tariff is not about alliance, it is merely an economical decision to decrease dependence on Chinese product, with the hope of resurrecting the dead manufacturing sector ng US.

Obvious naman yan, he is always trying to mislead the reader in favor of his Lord Dingoyo and henchmen.

anu ba ang nagiging leverage during a negotiation bossing? hindi ba’t ang bilateral relations pa rin? at naniniwala ka na hindi ang US-China relations ang dahilan ng pagpataw ng US ng tariff against China?

haha just counter argue instead of commenting on the person (ad hominem)

Relationship was never the reason for tariff. Your logic reminds me of my tenants.

When entities believe that they deserve better deals because of relationships.
